Advice for parents

For your child's comfort and wellbeing:
  • Make sure they are dressed appropriately: warm, waterproof clothing, a windproof jacket, mittens, goggles with a retaining strap or a ski mask, tissues, sunscreen, etc.
  • For ski equipment: ski boots, skis and a helmet (strongly recommended). Poles are only required from the 2ème étoile level onwards.
  • Make sure your child has their ski pass.
  • Please avoid following your child or calling out to them during their lesson, as this may disrupt their learning.
  • Leave any decisions regarding changes of group to the instructors. They are qualified professionals and will assess your child's actual skiing ability.

Please note the following information:
  • Please respect the lesson start and finish times. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes before the lesson begins.
  • esf does not provide insurance cover for its pupils. We recommend that you check your own insurance policy or take out ski insurance if necessary.
  • The ski pass is not included in the lesson fee and is compulsory for access to the ski lifts. Please ensure you have one before the lesson starts.
  • Ski equipment is not provided. Please make sure it is suitable for the skier's height, weight and ability level.
  • Before heading onto the slopes, remember to check the weather forecast and the slope opening status, and carry a piste map with you.
  • When using the ski lifts, please follow the safety instructions displayed at the lift departure points.

Advice and safety

The instructors at esf Le Corbier invite you to watch this safety video produced by the French National Ski Instructors' Association.

How to use ski lifts safely

Don't Forget! You play an important role in keeping everyone safe. Careless behaviour can put both you and other skiers at risk.

On chairlifts:
  • Place your backpack in front of you. It could get caught at the unloading area.
  • If you are not properly seated, let the chair pass. Trying to board incorrectly could leave you hanging.
  • Always lower the safety bar. It helps prevent falls.
  • Never jump off the chair, even if it has stopped. It's always higher than it looks.
  • If you miss the unloading point, stay seated. Use your legs to activate the automatic stop bar.

On ski lifts:
  • Remove your pole straps from your wrists. They could get caught on the lift.
  • Hold the T-bar steadily and do not weave from side to side. Excessive movement may cause the cable to derail and endanger other users.
  • If you fall, let go of the T-bar immediately and move quickly away from the lift track.
  • At the top, release the T-bar only at the designated unloading point. Passing beyond it will activate the emergency stop.
  • Move away from the unloading area promptly to avoid being struck by the next T-bar.
